Oahu, Afternoon #1 (Trip day #6): Waikiki Beach
Although I love our top-floor, beachfront hotel room (I think we’re the first guests after renovation!), one day in Waikiki will be plenty for me, thankyouverymuch. Some people fly to Honolulu, take a shuttle to their Waikiki hotel, play on the beach for a few days, and say they’ve “experienced Hawaii.” I don’t think so – and I haven’t even hiked the Napali Coast or Haleakala or camped along the road to Hana.
Here’s today’s postcard:
(“Here cancer, cancer, cancer!” DUMB.)
Looking so forward to visiting with my best friend from high school this evening! At 50, after going through a nasty divorce after raising four kids, she moved here. She’s a Master’s Swimmer (and, I assume, now a surfer) and seems to have found a new home for her dreams.

Definitely a whole change of scenery on Waikiki. Hope you had a great time with your friend, and that you'll relate her comments on what it's like to really live in Hawaii as opposed to being a tourist. Like Tom, I do wonder what it would be like to live there instead of just vacationing now and then.
I love Oahu though because of the history and action. I'm not a beach sitter and love activity, so I would probably be bored anyplace else. I have been to Hawaii and that was fun.(but not for a long period of time)
these pictures are an entirely different atmosphere than the previous ones... I would probably enjoy it , but just differently
OMG! My mom stayed at that same hotel in the 60's! She was on the 12th floor facing the beach. Amazing.
