Kauai, Day #3: the Napali Coast, whales, and a sunset

(And spinner dolphins, but I couldn’t grab my camera in time to catch those!)

Mostly photos and very little narrative again today, but I’m sure that’s fine with you… right?

One of the first things we did when we set foot on Kauai was to call Holo Holo Charters to take advantage of this “sea and air” deal.  Today was the sea part – a sunset dinner (and champagne) sail.  The skies were cloudy and the seas were rough, but this was the reward:

No more talking; here’s what you’re here for!

Yes, the water really is that color!

Get ready for a whale!  Blink, and you’ll miss it.

A whale off the Napali coast!

In case you missed that, here’s a still shot.  He’s breaching, but not all the way out of the water.

And here’s the tail:

Tomorrow we’ll do some snorkeling in the morning at Anini Beach and in the afternoon we’ll do the air portion of our sea and air deal.  Hopefully it won’t be as cloudy as it was today. Stand by!

  1. Beautiful. One day we will get to Kauai, but we loved our days in Maui! Still so sad to be home. It was just so beautiful and warm and sunny! Enjoy! It's cold and dark here at home! :)

  2. Looks like you're having a wonderful time! The adventure of flying above the canyon and along that spectacular coast looks amazing.
Also, that song by Israel is one of the most beautiful ever. And regarding whether it was kind or not to show your mom the slideshow of her granddaughters... I think Moms are different than other people. I had a similar experience with my mom, wondering if we were making her sad with our future plans, but her only response was joy at our continuing lives.
