A year ago today I stupidly slipped on the ice on our front steps and broke the three big bones and tore dang near all the ligaments in my left ankle.
Today, just three weeks after having the hardware store in my ankle removed…
…I’m putting the whole ordeal behind me and steppin’ out!
Yay! Begone with the bad year, on with the new! And who's your orthopod?t
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference a year makes. Congrats Carol!
ReplyDeleteThe amazing Dr. Stephen Benirschke at Harborview Medical Center. You can read more about him (and see a great shot of him)here: http://northwestladybug.blogspot.com/2009/03/bffs-arch-enemies-and-competition.html
ReplyDeleteCarol
I was just thinking today that it had to be about a year since you'd had that fall. SO good that you're happily up and about again!
ReplyDeletehappy we can now blog about this in a past tense!
ReplyDeleteAre you completely recovered now since your hardware was removed? 100%?
ReplyDeleteI wish I were 100%. I still go down steps like a toddler - one foot down, catch up with the other. I hope it's just a matter of a bit more physical therapy. Now that it's a new calendar year, my insurance will ALLOW it. @@
ReplyDeleteI think of your accident often these days while walking over many walkways and steps with ice on them. I am getting my boots resoled to have more grip. Amazing how one step can change everything sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYa know what I got for Christmas from my hubby, Tammy? YakTraks -- or whatever those "claw" gizmos are that strap to your shoes. I also got a bluetooth device for my car... he said this year's gift theme was SAFETY! How romantic, eh? :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that's all over for you, Carol!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol! I wish I could talk to you or email you directly. Most of the time I have trouble leaving you a message here because so technically challenged! (Plus, I which love a little feedback from you!) I am having my hardware removed on February 17th. My DOI was December 3, 2006! The wait for hardware removal in Toronto, Canada is a LONG! I won't be NWB but I have to wear that boot for SIX WEEKS! I have two plates and eight screws. I miss our ankle blog! Olga canceled it because she doesn't have the time and it kept getting viruses. I'm slmandel@rogers.com or Sharon Lee Mandel on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI love your website and I hope you are doing well. If you have time, I would love to hear from you the traditional way. :) (Let's see if this goes through... I'm hopeless!)
IT WORKED!!! Too bad about my typos! I meant to say; "I'm so technically challenged.." and "I would like a little feedback..." I should proof read BEFORE I attempt to send a comment.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you had a wonderful doctor and the support of your beautiful family and the ankleblog! Happy Ankleversary! I hope I hear from you.
