Christians making Christians look bad: “The Insanity & Racism of the Religious Right”
I rarely get political on this blog, but some of the recent crap going on in this country is just pissing me off. I won’t post the photo because I refuse to post such vile stuff here, but anyone who would hold a sign of Obama dressed as a tribal witch doctor just infuriates me. How jaded, racist, and stupid can one BE?
I think Jimmy Carter is right when he says that there’s a huge amount of racism going on in this country, aimed directly at our elected president.
I have a former friend from college who became a fundamentalist Christian over the past 20 years and believes all the vitriol she hears from these uneducated, fanatically right-winged, closed-minded groups about President Obama. How embarrassing and disappointing that Americans – any American – would hold such disgusting and destructive views! It really scares me.
Rachel Maddow and Frank Schaeffer are right on in this piece:
And now, back to posting about family and pets and the weather. I just had to say that!

I agree with you 100%. I just can't believe the garbage that is happening. I even think he is in danger of being assinated with so much hate going on.
Oh man! I'm shivering (once again!) at how much we think alike. I watched this on Maddow last night and was absolutely blown away at how right-on this guy pegs it. And he comes from that background of "village idiots" — and makes no bones about it. Yes, this is based in racism, even if the White House officially denies that. And it's also based in lunacy. I just wish the mainstream media would give equal time to rationality. (Like Maddow. Even my fiscally repub husband respects her for her honest investigative reporting). But like Frank Schaeffer says, this faction of the lunatic right will not be swayed by FACTS. Shudder.
The left wing has a bunch of wingnuts too. The huge difference, though, is that the left wingnuts don't have a mainstream politicians on their side or an entire "news" network devoted to promoting their causes. Fox Noise is unconscienable in that they cover and promote this nonsense and try to make it look mainstream. Humans are ridiculously susceptible to brainwashing, and to hear people regurgitating the crap they hear on Fox Noise (and from wingnut radio, like Rush Limbaugh) just breaks my heart, and, yes, scares the hell out of me.
