Sweethearts (and Sign-tology) in Seattle

Tom and I spent yesterday afternoon and evening celebrating our 25th anniversary. Before we came home to the incredible gift from Elisabeth, we had a very enjoyable day "playing tourist" in Seattle (one of our family's favorite pasttimes). Here's that adventure in pictures:

Both Tom and I each worked in the morning and when he came home to pick me up for our "extended date," he brought roses with him. 25 roses. No, wait... there are 24 roses here! (He insisted that there was one for each of our beautiful years together... and one of those years wasn't all that great. Yes, that's true -- but it's also his trademark sense of humor!)

24, 25... what's the difference? I loved them, and told him so!

As he opened the car door for me, there was the 25th rose, waiting for me on my seat. Hell, the guy's still pretty romantic, doctcha think?

When we got to the restaurant on the Seattle waterfront (Cutter's Bayhouse), there were streamers and a card waiting for us at our waterfront table! We immediately ordered drinks and took a picture of the whole moody moment:
The food was fabulous. Tom had seafood seaffod mole bruchette with pineapple mango salsa and polenta, and I had seafood fettuccine.

For dessert we shared a sorbet that was almost almost too pretty to eat! (Almost.)

After lunch, we walked around Pike's Place Market, even though most vendors were just about packed up for the day, morning market that it is.

Aren't these beautiful flowers? I can just imagine them at a wedding...

Then we walked to the Seattle Art Musuem, with its trademark "man with a hammer..."

...and noticed that it was a typically gray Seattle day -- which was fine with us, since the tourists weren't out in droves and it felt like we had "our" city to ourselves, greedy couple that we are.

One of the things that I love about Seattle is its "signage." Like these:

Yeah, well, DUH!

We're proud of our rain, even if we complain about it.

And at the Market, Seattle has a unique way of laying down the law:

Then it was off to Cirque Du Soliel, where I was literally on the edge of my seat, gasping and occaisionally closing my eyes because I couldn't bear to watch. Of course, no cameras were allowed in the venue, so I could only snap photos outside -- in the gray.

It was a glorious day, evening and night! And tonight we're at it again, as we head to Aleks' and Kat's Senior Awards Night at the high school. Geeze, it really IS a crazy time of year -- and a crazy time in our lives --with two kids graduating from high school, a milestone anniversary, birthdays, and what seems like a new event to absorb every day!
